Job Description

LECTURER GRADE 12 – MEDICAL LABORATORY DEPARTMENT - SPECIALIZATION IN HISTOLOGY AND CYTOLOGY :
SEKU/ADV/AC/4/5/2022 (1 POST) (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Duties and Responsibilities of Lecturer Grade 12:

a. Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
b. Coordinating course projects and practical work;
c. Preparing teaching/learning materials;
d. Setting, invigilating and marking examinations/assignments;
e. Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization;
f. Preparing students progress reports;
g. Developing proposals for research funding;
h. Writing journal articles and books;
i. Presenting academic papers in conferences/seminars/workshops or symposia;
j. Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula; and
k. Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
l. Undertake consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University;
m. Establish collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration and participation for resource mobilization for the University;
n. Present research findings and innovations to international conferences in order to increase the visibility of the University and to influence international policy environment for improvement of life;
o. Engage with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks in order to work together for the betterment of communities invarious ways such as research and innovations;
p. Execute budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory;
q. Control and manage research budgets to ensure accountability of allocated funds.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this position, one must :
1. Have an earned Ph.D. in Medical Laboratory Sciences with specialization in Hematology/Blood Transfusion Sciences and Histology and Cytology from an accredited and recognized University; and
2. Be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) and with a valid membership certificate.
3. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

a. One university level scholarly book = 24 publication points;
b. Patented invention or innovation = 16 publications points;
c. One tertiary level scholarly book = 8 publication points;
d. One article in a refereed journal = 8 publication points;
e. Refereed learning modules = 6 publication points;
f. One chapter in a university level scholarly book = 6 publication points;
g. One reviewed conference paper = 4 publication points;
h. One secondary school level text book = 4 publication points;
i. Short communication in refereed journal = 4 publication points;
j. Consultancy and project reports = 4 publication points;
k. Refereed exhibitions and performances = 4 publication points;
l. One primary level primary book = 2 publication points;
m. Editorship of a book or conference proceedings = 2 publication points;
n. Scholarly presentations at conferences/workshops/seminars= 2 publication points;
o. One non-reviewed conference paper = 2 publication points.
p. Book review published in refereed journals = 1publication point.
