Job Description

The ideal candidate will be part of the Local Management Team and will lead our EHS team to establish standards of Health and Safety. He will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance the EHS standards in accordance to the Company policy as well as Regulatory standards.

Main Activities/Tasks
• Preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy aligned to the current local regulations (legislation) and Company's ENS policy. Ensuring suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out in all areas & ensure containment measures are covered in procedures and effective training to ensure controls are effective.
• Carrying out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
• Investigate & document safety events, ensuring robust follow up on corrective & preventative measures.
• Communicate & liaise with relevant competent authorities (e.g., National Environment Management Authority NEMA, Ministry of labour & social protection) when required.
• Keeping records of inspections findings and producing reports that suggest improvements.
• Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. Dangerous substances & explosive atmospheres, fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, manual handling and occupational diseases.
• Ensure safety data sheets in place for all chemicals and easy access to enable all areas to use these for risk management & complete COSHH assessments.
▪ Ensuring the safe installation and maintenance of equipment (The Factories. Building Operations & Works of Engineering Construction).
• Ensuring that all portable electrical appliances are regularly checked in accordance with local Electricity at Work regulations.
• Training of all employees in the availability, selection. and safe use of Personal Protective Equipment.
▪ Ensuring that SOP's relating to Environmental Health and Safety, are maintained. and upgraded as required.
▪ Managing and organising the safe disposal of all waste & hazardous materials in accordance with relevant environmental license where applicable.
• Any other duties as deemed necessary by management.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities for Career Success
• A minimum of B.S. /B.A. degree in Engineering, Environmental, or Natural Sciences, or in other related technical discipline
• Engineer with at least 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing plant. EHS coordination level Familiarity with accident investigation and prevention; applied ergonomics expertise. and in-depth understanding of NEMA and OSHA regulations, the successful candidate should have a good understanding of root cause analysis for investigation of incidents
• Excellent interpersonal skills
