Job Description

REGISTERED NURSE, JOB GRADE MTRH 10 (10 POSITIONS)
REF: MTRH/HR/7/08/2023

a). Job Purpose:
Implement the Nursing Act, Cap 257 revised edition 2012(1985). Provide and coordinate
holistic, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health care services using the
nursing process to meet health needs of clients/patients at the Hospital. Collaborate with
other members of the health care team in providing health care interventions. Carry out
research in nursing health care. Maintain nursing records and confidentiality of
information relating to patients/clients. Provide safe patient care in a conducive
environment.

b). Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and duties for Registered Nurse entails;
1. Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions, evaluating patient’s nursing care plans and preparing periodic reports.
2. Maintaining accurate, complete Health care records and reports.
3. Diagnosing common health conditions;
4. Providing appropriate healthcare service including Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), Integrated Management of Adolescents and
Adulthood illnesses (IMAI), immunization and reproductive health, providing health education and counseling to patients/clients on identified health needs.
5. Administering medication to patients and monitoring them for side effects and
reactions.
6. Facilitating patients’ admission and initiating discharge plans.
7. Referring patients and clients appropriately
8. Providing and coordinating patient care, educate patients and the public about
various health conditions, provide advise and emotional support to patients and
their families.
9. Reading and interpreting patient information, making treatment decisions when
appropriate
10. Consulting with supervisors and doctors to decide on the best treatment plan for
patients
11. Counseling and educating patients and their families on treatment plans
12. Changing wound dressings and care for other treatment options
13. Directing and supervising nurses, nurse assistants and nurse aides
14. Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment;
15. Identifying occupational health needs
16. Research ways to improve healthcare processes and patient outcomes
17. Collecting and Compiling Data
18. Implementing recommendations from research findings for improvement of care.

c). Minimum Requirements:
For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:
i. A minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience in a busy Hospital with at
least two hundred (200) bed capacity.
ii. Diploma in any of the following disciplines; Kenya Registered Community Health
Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya
Registered Nursing/Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and
Psychiatry from a recognized institution.
iii. Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
iv. 2023 Valid practising license from Nursing Council of Kenya.
v. Proficiency in computer applications.

d). Competencies:

SALARY ATTACHED TO SCALE:

MTRH 10: Kshs. 63,068 X 5,719 – 68,787 X 5,921 – 74,708 X 6,123 – 80,831 X 6,325 – 87,156 X 6,526 – 93,682 X 6,728 – 100,410 X 7,341 – 107,341p.m
The successful candidates will still be entitled to applicable allowances to these grades
