JOB GROUP ‘R’

(A) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;
• Implementing Fisheries policies, programmes and strategies;
• Evaluating, monitoring, control and surveillance systems;
• monitoring the implementation of regional and international fisheries agreements;
• coordinating the strengthening of fisheries extension services;
• promoting co-operation between the fisheries sector and local/ international stakeholders;
• implementation of multilateral projects and programmes.;
• undertaking cost effective research to advance national and sectoral priorities;
• promoting fish marketing and value addition;
• harmonizing fisheries technical trainings in liaison with relevant institutions; undertaking and
monitoring and evaluation activities in the division

(B) REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
i. Served in the grade of Senior Assistant Director of Fisheries or a comparable and relevant position
in the Public Service for at least three [3] years;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:- Fisheries , Zoology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural
Resource Management, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science,
Biological Sciences, Physical Science, Chemistry or any other equivalent qualifications from a
recognized institution
iii. Master’s degree in any of the following fields is an added advantage; Biochemistry, Food Science
and Technology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Physical Science, Chemistry or any
other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
iv. Shown competence in planning and implementation of development, management and research of
fisheries projects and programmes;
v. Have certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution
vi. Have knowledge of the fisheries policies, fisheries Act and other related statues;
vii. Be conversant with national and international fisheries agreements, conventions, protocols and
laws of the seas; and
viii. Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
