Job Description

LEGAL MANAGER, JOB GRADE MNS 8 - MNS/HR/12/2021 (1 POST)

(a) Job Description

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: -

(i) Developing, reviewing and implementing the Legal policies, procedures, strategies, standards and guidelines in line with the overall corporate plan;
(ii) Advising and representing the society on legal matters;
(iii) Drafting contracts and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUS) and other legal documents on behalf of the society;
(iv) Initiating required legislation amendments for the promotion of the society’s activities;
(v) Liaising with external lawyers and the Attorney General on legal matters and operations;
(vi) Facilitating compliance with all legal requirements on behalf of the society;
(vii) Conducting field visits and investigation missions;
(viii) Conducting research on legal issues falling within the society’s mandate;
(ix) Preparing reports;
(x) Attending to court cases on behalf of the society;
(xi) preparing divisional monthly performance reports;
(xii) Managing the individual and divisional performance targets; and
(xiii) Mentoring and coaching staff in the Division.


(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must: -

(i) Have served for a minimum period of three years in the grade of Assistant Legal Manager or in a comparable position in the public or private sector for a minimum period of nine (9) years, three (3) of which must in management level;

(ii) Have Bachelor of Laws Degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

(iii) Have Masters degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

(iv) Have Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Council for Legal Education;

(v) Have been admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

(vi) Have a Current Advocates Practicing Certificate;

(vii) Be a Member to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPS (K);

(viii) Have Certificate Corporate Governance from a recognized institution;

(ix) Be Proficient in computer applications; and

(x) Have Demonstrated outstanding professional and administrative competence as reflected in work performance and results.
