Job Description

Del Monte Kenya Limited located in Murang’a area near Thika town is a leading
producer, marketer and distributor of premium quality foods, fresh and processed
pineapple fruit and fruit juice beverages. As part of our commitment to meeting our
performance objectives, we are looking for a top class individual to fill a position in
our Administration Department.
POSITION: HUMAN RIGHTS MANAGER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to Managing Director, the position will be responsible for:-
• Working with key stakeholders to develop a detailed action plan to address
human rights challenges in the workplace and in surrounding communities.
Oversee full implementation of the plan.
• Oversee human rights strategy with objectives and KPIs.
• Implementing meaningful human rights due diligence activities, including
assessing, managing and monitoring the business’ impact on human rights,
security and the environment.
• Developing and implementing a community engagement and consultation
strategy using community consultation sessions to build strong relationships
with surrounding communities.
• Help implement and support the company’s new grievance systems (for both
employees and communities) and facilitate the integration of learnings from
grievance mechanisms and remedial efforts into the human rights due diligence
processes.
• Presenting strategic projects (to be implemented in collaboration with NGO’s
or by DMK alone) to MD & FDP CSO to help address/mitigate identified or
perceived social risks.
• Developing relevant KPI’s that help monitor progress in crucial areas identified
either in through HRIA, social audits or operational grievance mechanisms.
• Supporting all the relevant teams across the Company, including PR Manager,
Welfare & Diversity Manager, Security Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer
with the implementation of human rights-related requirements. This also includes
close cooperation with internal compliance functions to ensure compliance from
service providers to the company’s human rights standards.
• Building capacity, training and creating awareness on human rights-related
topics to internal stakeholders such as supervisors, managers, workers etc
(e.g. effective workplace communication, discrimination and unconscious bias,
safeguarding, gender, sexual harassment), as well as provide support to the
security manager in training private security providers to the company.

THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:-
• Degree in Human Rights, international development, sustainability, or relevant
field (LL. B or BSc).
• Minimum 5 years’ expertise working in the field of business & human rights.
• Conversant with international and local legislations and regulatory requirements
relating to human rights.
• Knowledge of third-party certification requirements relating to human rights.
• A working understanding of and exposure to a corporate environment.
• Experience with community relations and have excellent relationship building
skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, highly solution and impact oriented.
• A self-starter and have ability to proactively identify and lead on tasks.
• Attention to detail and can deal with complexity.
• Excellent networking.
• Eligible to work in Kenya.
• Proficient in Swahili and English.
