Job Description

Duties and responsibilities
1. Be responsible for ideation and concept development of suitable power generation projects
2. Be responsible for pre-feasibility and feasibility study of energy & non-energy projects to determine technical feasibility, viability in terms of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Levelized cost and economics and carryout out Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
3. Take leading role in the development of the National Least Cost Power Development Plan with the other sector players, whilst ensuring that KenGen’s projects pipeline is incorporated in the National Plan
4. Ensure that all the requisite approvals for the projects are obtained to cause implementation of the same
5. Identifying, creating, tracking and submitting the relevant Capex documentation to enable all projects to be delivered on time, within budget and at best overall value.
6. Facilitating structuring and implementation of Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects to alleviate burden on the Company’s balance sheet.
7. Facilitating formation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) as well as represent the Company’s interest in the Special Purpose Vehicle.
8. Managing the implementation of Transaction Advisory services at every phase of the project cycle from inception to financial close, while ensuring that the project provides value for money and solutions and appropriately allocates risks.
9. Supervising installation of data collection stations for hydro, wind and solar for the purpose of analysis and identification of new generation sites for renewable energy projects and guide in the revenue projections.
10. Managing energy planning, energy projections, generation monitoring, hydropower reservoir, climate change outlook and hydrometeorological network as well as analysis of the same. (The Energy Plan feeds into the National Least Cost Power Development Plan and regional master plans).
11. Seeking avenues of revenue diversification by sourcing for opportunities to offer both internal and external consultancy service in the areas of expertise.
12. Facilitating, monitoring and absorption of budget for the Department
13. Participating in procurement processes.
14. Coaching and mentoring staff within the division using relevant human resource tools.

Person Specifications
1. A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience five (5) of which must have been at a senior management position in a large organization.
2. Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business related field from a recognized Institution is an added advantage
3. Bachelor of Science/Technology Degree in: Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical/Civil Engineering or Business Related field from a recognized institution.
4. Registered Professional Engineer in good standing with Engineers Board of Kenya or relevant Professional Body Membership
5. Membership with Institution of Engineers of Kenya in good standing.
6. Membership with Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board
7. Membership to a relevant professional body.
8. Project Management Professional Certification will be an added advantage .

Terms of Service:
The appointment will be for a contractual period of five (5) years renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
