Job Description

PRINCIPAL INTERNAL AUDITOR – GRADE NRV 4
The position is responsible for providing independent, objective assurance and
consulting activity aimed at adding value and improving the operations of the Agency.
In addition, the position is responsible for assisting the Agency to accomplish its
strategic objectives by effecting a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and
improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
a) Job Specifications
The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail: -
i. Formulating internal audit policies, strategies and plans;
ii. Implementing internal audit policies, strategies and plans;
iii. Setting up of audit systems in accordance with auditing standards;
iv. Implementing audit systems in accordance with auditing standards;
v. Monitoring Agency overall risk profiles;
vi. Preparing reports on the Agency overall risk;
vii. Supporting various departments in risk profiling;
viii. Providing independent assurance on risk management process on both design
and operation;
ix. Develop Audit Committee Board charter;
x. Preparing internal audit reports;
xi. Conducting special audits and investigations;
xii. Testing the efficacy of the risk assessment systems;
xiii. Reviewing correctness and accuracy of accounting reports;
xiv. Assuring on risk control effectiveness, efficiency and adequacy and risk
management processes;
xv. Undertaking physical verification of projects;
xvi. Undertaking physical inspection of assets;
xvii. Coordinate external audits;

b) Person Specification
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -
i. Have a minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) of
which must have been at a supervisory position;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce, Finance, Business
Administration, Business Management (Finance and Accounting option) or
equivalent from a recognized institution;
iii. Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce, Finance, Business
Administration, Business Management (Finance and Accounting option) or
equivalent from a recognized institution;
iv. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized
institution;
v. Passed part III of Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (K) or its equivalent
qualification;
vi. Membership to Institute of Certified Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Institute of
Internal Auditor (IIA), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)
or equivalent in good standing;
vii. Proficiency in computer application;
viii. Fulfill the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution.
