SENIOR REGISTERED NURSE (ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY) – JOB GRADE, MTRH 9
(5 POSITIONS)

a) Job Purpose
Implement the Nursing Act, Cap 257 Revised Edition 2012 [1985]. Provide holistic,
preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health care services using the nursing
process to meet health needs of clients/patients who urgently need treatment so that
they can stabilize their vital signs and limit pain and discomfort at the Hospital.
Collaborate with other members of the health care team in providing health care
interventions. Carry out research in emergency nursing health care. Maintain nursing
records and confidentiality of information relating to patients/clients. Provide safe
patient care in a conducive environment.
b) Responsibilities
Senior Registered Nurse (Accident & Emergency) responsibilities include;
1. Quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
2. Working collaboratively with doctors and staff to provide exceptional care
3. Performing all requested diagnostic tests
4. Diagnosing and developing treatment plans collaboratively with doctors and staff
5. Managing multiple cases simultaneously, prioritizing needs continually
6. Complying with all legal and safety requirements at all times
7. Maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized work environment
8. Working at maximum efficiency without compromising quality of care
9. Abiding by all hospital rules and regulations
10. Acting in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure
11. Monitoring coworkers and voice concerns to minimize errors
12. Providing follow up care instructions to patients and make necessary referrals
13. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient charts
14. Attending required trainings and continuing education events
c) Minimum Requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have;
i. Served in the grade of Registered Nurse for a minimum period of five (5) years or in a
comparable position.
ii. Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing,
Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental
Health and Psychiatric from a recognized institution.
iii. Higher Diploma in Accident and Emergency Nursing from a recognized institution.
iv. Registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
v. 2023 practising license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
vi. Proficiency in computer applications.
