Position : Resident Physician
Department : Medical Services
Reports to : Medical Director
Location : Nairobi City

Job Objective/Purpose
To provide overall clinical leadership and governance as well as clinical care in the department of clinical medicine. He or she will be expected to be an active member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team in the hospital and to contribute to the continuing professional development programs.


• Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct Physician outpatient clinics in line with the hospital schedules and attend to both walk-in and referred patients.
2. Attend to all patients who require physician review within hospital standard operating procedures, national and internationally guidelines.
3. Conducting timely ward rounds/patient reviews for all internal medicine patients in the hospital, in line with the hospital standard operating procedures, national, and international treatment guidelines.
4. Accurate and clear documentation of patient history, physical examination, investigations, and management.
5. Provide clarity of investigations to be carried out and interpretation of the results and ensure update to the patients and the next of kin.
6. Facilitate patient admissions, necessary consents, and discharges.
7. Counsel clients on treatment and compliance to treatment (patient and family) while ensuring their participation in decision making in their management. 8. Carry out procedures and surgical interventions as per authorized/licensed privileges while ensuring high quality of care/services and safety of patients.
9. Conduct family conferences in line with hospital standard operating procedures
10. Participate in morbidity and mortality audits and meetings.
11. Participation in incident reporting, root cause analysis and Quality Improvement Plan 12. Participate in the continuous review and improvement of departmental standard operating procedures
13. Facilitate Continuous Medical Education, mentorship, and skills training to colleagues
14. Acquiring new skills on best practices and proactively facilitate implementation.
15. Maintain a positive work attitude and foster teamwork.
16. Always maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
17. Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care, communication, feedback and escalation and demonstrate follow-up and improvement.
18. Ensure sustainability and growth by:
a. Increasing the quality and diversity of services offered in the facility.
b. Supporting outreach activities.
c. Support revenue cycle management through ensuring per-authorization, billing, and accurately filling of all necessary claims’ documentation.
d. Maintaining awareness about credit limits.
19. Ensure that Avenue corporate governance policies are adhered to.
a. Prevent, detect and report any fraud or criminal activity
b. Timely review and implementation of audit recommendations
20. Ensure adequate knowledge of all Avenue policies, procedures and systems as outlined in the HRMIS.
21. Any other duty as assigned by your immediate supervisor in line with the job description.


Personal Specifications
 Bachelor’s in Medicine and Surgery as well as a Masters in Internal Medicine.
 Specialist recognition in Internal Medicine.
 Fellowship in cardiology/endocrinology/Nephrology is desirable.
 Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience.
 Confident, organized and with excellent communication.
 Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
 Excellent interpersonal and a team player.
 Ethical, empathetic and customer focused.
