Project Description:
The HIV Research division is under KEMRI’s Centre for Global Health Research
(CGHR), Kisumu. The division conducts research on epidemiology, prevention,
management and treatment of HIV and associated conditions, including (but not
limited to) other sexually transmitted infections; It is also engaged more recently
in COVID-19 clinical research. The project seeks to fill the position of Medical
Officer in Kisumu County.
Position: Clinical Research Scientist, 1 position
Job Group: KMR 5
Location: Kisumu
Reporting to: Principal Investigator

Job Summary:
The officer will be responsible for day to day management of participant care,
data collection, and entry, while ensuring adherence to research protocols and
ethical guidelines. The officer is also involved in maintaining detailed records of
research activities, including data collection forms, study logs, and adverse event
reports, as well as drafting of SOPs, training materials and others.

Job Specification:
The major duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail:
i. Implementing pre-clinical and clinical research projects and/or supervise
designated aspects of the work;
ii. General diagnosis, care, treatment and provision of specialized clinical
care for study participants;
iii. Assist in carrying out fieldwork and pre-clinical and clinical experimental
procedures;
iv. Carry out experimental and/or developmental work;
v. Contributing to interpretation and validation of results
vi. Conduct community diagnosis, care and treatment during Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) activities;
vii. Assist in organization of the internal scientific seminars;
viii. Liaise with PI to respond to any monitoring findings and implement
approved recommendations
ix. Present research overviews, reports and presentations to relevant
stakeholders.
x. Provide guidance and mentorship to interdisciplinary team members
involved in research activities.
xi. Support the drafting of SOPs, operations manuals, quality assurance
documentation, training materials and others.
xii. Collaborate with PI to respond to any monitoring findings and implement
approved recommendations.
xiii. Perform any other duties as assigned by the PI

Requirements:
i. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields;- Medicine and surgery,
Dentistry from a recognized Institution;
ii. Proficiency in computer application; and
iii. Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
iv. Be registered by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board
v. Research experience will be an added advantage.
