Job Description

Manager, Environment, Health And Safety (EHS) - Job Grade 4 (Permanent And Pensionable) Ref : 6 / 8 / 2023

Qualifications
1. At least eight (8) years’ related work experience; three (3) of which must be at supervisory level;
2. A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized university;
3. A Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized university;
4. Professional qualification in Environmental, Health and Safety;
5. Membership in good standing of a relevant professional body, where applicable;
6. Certificate in Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; and
7. Fulfilment the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Responsibilities
1. Manage the review of Environment and Social Impact Assessment study reports for proposed projects;
2. Coordinate the development of guidelines to enable implementation of ratified Environment, Health and Safety treaties, conventions or protocols;
3. Organize environment, health and safety audits;
4. Organize technical inspections for sites proposed for the development of energy or petroleum infrastructure;
5. Coordinate technical inspections during the development of energy and petroleum infrastructure;
6. Ensure provision of comments on Environment and Social Impact Assessment study reports for proposed energy and petroleum infrastructure;
7. Participate in the development of standards and codes of practice;
8. Develop guidelines to enable implementation of ratified Environment, Health and Safety treaties, conventions or protocols;
9. Draft responses to all inquiries and correspondences on matters pertaining to environment, health and safety;
10. Undertake gap analysis of gazetted energy and petroleum regulations and other statutory instruments for adequacy of provisions on Environment, Health and Safety matters;
11. Supervise Environment, Health and Safety audits;
12. Develop Environment, Health and Safety guidelines for complete restoration of sites used for energy and petroleum operations;
13. Prepare Board Papers on environment, health and safety in the energy and petroleum sectors on matters requiring approval;
14. Ensure implementation of Board decisions on matters pertaining environment, safety and health in the energy and petroleum sectors;
15. Prepare tender documents for all externally contracted services necessary for proper regulation of environment, safety and health in the energy and petroleum sectors; and
16. Prepare reports and briefs to Government and other agencies on environment, safety and health in the energy and petroleum sectors.
