Job Description

The KEMRI/USA Medical Research Directorate-Kenya is a research organization affiliated with
the Kenya Medical Research Institute. Our mission is to develop and test improved means for
predicting, detecting, preventing and treating infectious diseases. We are looking for a motivated
individual to fill the following position at the Kericho Field Station:
Title: Community Health Worker (1 post) Grade: KMR 8
Reporting to: Principal Investigator

Position Summary:
The position serves as the POC for all community-related activities and carries out community
mobilization for current and upcoming research studies.

a) Job Specification:
The duties and responsibilities at this level will include the following:
i. Plan and execute community education and engagement that aim to create a research literate society.
ii. Assist with organizing stakeholder engagement meetings to sensitize, update and give
feedback on the research studies to the site’s stakeholders.
iii. Survey and assessment of potential mobilization/recruitment sites.
iv. Mobilization of the target population to participate in Research Studies.
v. Ensure that the right study population is reached in the community and assess the
participant for enrollment as per the protocol requirements promptly.
vi. Maintain and update participants’ contact information to ensure retention.
vii. Distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.
viii. Compile and present reports required for different research protocols.
ix. Promote other prevention activities.
x. Maintain confidentiality of participants.
xi. Provide any necessary Psychosocial Support.
xii. Reinforce adherence to study activities.

b) Person Specification Required
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
i. At least four (4) years of relevant work experience;
ii. Diploma in the following fields; Community Health and Development, Nutrition, Social
work or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
iii. Proficiency in computer application;
iv. Demonstrated work performance and results; and
v. Fulfil the requirement of Chapter Six of the constitution.

Terms of Employment:
One (1) year renewable contract.
Probation period for the first three (3) months
Remuneration: Salary is based on the KEMRI salary scale.
