Job Summary – The Overall Purpose of the Job

 Responsible for providing support to IMLU’s Rehabilitation and Documentation Program and advises the program officers on clients’ medical treatment, documentation, and overall rehabilitation issues pertaining to IMLU’s mandate. Also leads in coordinating, strengthening, and renewing strategic networks in the medical field.

Description of Main Duties or Tasks Performed by the Job Holder

  • Medical Rehabilitation and Documentation
    • Receive all victims and assess their initial medical needs;
    • Keep track of victims’ receiving medical services at the organization;
    • Maintain schedule of medical appointments of victims while coordinating with the healthcare service providers (hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, etc.);
    • Accompany victims to the hospital and or shelters as and when required;
    • Conduct follow up home visits and hospital visits to victims receiving medical care;
    • Coordinate forensic documentation/autopsies for victims through the network of pathologists;
    • Coordinate the network of doctors and pathologists and assign duties in consultation with the Program Officer
    • Nurture and manage healthy relationships with partner medical institutions

(b)   Monitoring and Data Management

  • Keep and update a manual and electronic log of clients receiving medical and psychological rehabilitative services;
  • Receive, file, and retrieve medical and psychological documentation;
  • Make follow-up with medical doctors for prompt submission of reports (within 72 hours);
  • Make available quarterly analytical case file statistics for all the cases in the rehabilitation department;
  • Maintain functional linkage with redress program for harmonizing of case file opening and numbering;

(c)    Programming Management and Resourcing

  • Developing the medical rehabilitation plans and budgets
  • Preparing relevant program reports
  • Serve as the liaison person with the Kenya Medical Association, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, Kenya Association of Pathologists, and other relevant networks on behalf of the institution;
  • Participate actively in resource mobilization, including writing funding proposals;
  • Generate information for proposal writing and programme reporting;
  • Generate case studies on medical and psychological rehabilitation quarterly;
  • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of direct service provision for victims and their families;

(d)   Other Responsibilities

  • Represent the rehabilitation and documentation program in strategic stakeholder meetings;
  • Participate in Case management meetings;
  • Support in organizing relevant conferences, training, and field activities for the department
