Job Description

Purpose of the role:
• Undertake activities that ensures efficient and effective trade research. • Formulate, consolidate and support key policy and advocacy messages.

Key Responsibilities:
Identify business priority policy areas that needs to be addressed in the interest of members Review, monitor and document trade policy's in the country
Prepare policy briefs on topical areas of interest by members
Analyze legislations that affect businesses, package it and disseminate to stakeholders
Liaise with key stakeholders in advocating for business policy's that positively affect members Provide business policy and economic development support at National and County levels Liaise with key stakeholders in identifying business policy's issues that affect members Prepare policy position papers to county and national government for consideration
Establish an advocacy annual calendar
Identify topical issues on trade promotions and develop research concepts
Facilitate and coordinate trade policy related researches
Carry out trade flow analysis of countries to ascertain demand and supply opportunities
Conduct research to ascertain market trends at local and international levels (market intelligence)
Facilitate linkage between industry and research institutions to enhance product development.
Contribute to database development by providing statistics on trade facilitation that includes customs, doing business and non-tariff barriers.

Academic and Professional Qualifications:
• Degree in Economics from a recognized institution, Masters in Economics is an added advantage.
10 years' experience,5 years of which is managerial.
• Knowledge and experience of trade policy, trade facilitation, trade related capacity building and government policy
High-level written and verbal communication skills relevant to the role such as experience writing policy documents, government submissions and media communications
Demonstrated advocacy, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
• Excellent problem solving, analytical skills and capacity to understand and apply research evidence and legislation
• Strong management, mentoring and networking skills.
Ability to work autonomously and to collaborate in a small team environment
• High level organizational and administrative skills and ability to prioritize workload, to work under pressure and meet deadlines
