Our client is looking for a self-driven, highly ambitious and techno-commercial oriented Building & Infrastructure Business Manager for Eastern Africa to be based in Nairobi. The Building & Infrastructure Business Manager position is a techno-commercial role which provides not only technical control leadership and supervision during projects implementation but also commercial leads generation.
Reporting to the Chief Executive- Eastern Africa, the B&I Business Manager will be responsible for the execution of projects in buildings and infrastructure sectors, from a QA/QC, Technical Assistance and Certification Consulting perspective during execution and throughout the assets life-cycle.
In addition to Technical Controls and Supervision of projects (design review, construction supervision of various infrastructure projects from quality perspective, HSE supervision, planning & scheduling activities, resource allocation, project accounting & control against standards, tendering and contracts administration) the B&I Manager will also be accountable for the profit & loss account for the business unit and ensure revenue and profitability targets for the business unit are achieved.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Quality planning and implementation of effective quality control and assurance (QA/QC) throughout the projects’ life cycle.
• Manage and oversee project quality and ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment specific specifications and contractual requirements.
• Implement strategic direction and management to projects from a technical and business perspective.
• Provide strong leadership in technical proposals preparation and contribute to business development in current and new markets within governments, private sector entities, multilateral institutions and non-governmental organizations.
• Develop monthly/yearly forecasts and budgets for the B&I Business in Eastern Africa and put in place high level strategies to achieve desired growth targets and profitability.
• Drive and inspire technical excellence by creating an environment of learning and innovation that attracts and develops the best talent reflective of the diversity of our clients.
• Provide strong leadership by example, leveraging strong organizational, managerial, technical, process, and people management skills that motivates and builds a team of young engineers.
• Organize and lead a team of professional engineers to develop bespoke proposals as well as effectively respond to large tender calls and submissions in a timely manner.
• Monitor and facilitate qualified engineering resourcing to ensure that appropriate resources are deployed across various projects/contracts.
• Appraise opportunities for alignment with the business plan and lead the Go/No GO process for all projects identified.
• Support the sales team to maximize contribution to the business and drive engagement in the team in order to explore new markets.
• Collaborative and identify multi-disciplinary resources within tight timelines required in order to deliver efficient and cost-effective project proposals and execution.
• Build, develop and maintain business relationships with key stakeholders, technology leaders and team members for the success of the projects.
• Champion ethical practices and ensure compliance to BV’s Code of Ethics as well as ensuring that all governance & technical review processes are followed.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
• University Degree in Civil Engineering, MSc in Civil Engineering will have an added advantage.
• Post graduate qualification in Project Management and good knowledge of project management techniques, tools and software.
• Minimum 8 years of work experience in building, construction or real estate sector with reputable organizations.
• Experience in working with Governments & Regulatory Authorities, Multilateral Funding Organization and State Agencies.
• Proven track record in successful tendering of major framework bids with significant pre-contract experience.
• Knowledge of Green Building Standards/Codes and Sustainability measurements.
• Languages: English/French.

Skills & Abilities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong presentation skills, with the ability to interact courteously, diplomatically and tactfully with junior engineers, clients and contractors.
• Strong organizational skills to ensure proper work planning and scheduling, as well as the ability to expedite tasks with minimum supervision.
• Able to develop and manage relations at both middle and C-suite levels
• Strong combination of technical, analytical, commercial and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders in both private and public sectors.
