Terms of Service: Pensionable, medical cover
Remuneration (kshs.); Basic salary: 170,500.00 to 373,500.00, House allowance:
35,000.00, Commuter allowance: 20,000.00

Job Purpose
Responsible for maritime assistance in search and rescue in accordance with
International Conventions and national legislations relating to the search and rescue.

Job Description
Duties and responsibilities
i. Executing the SAR plan in cooperation with the sub- regional maritime rescue
coordination centres;
ii. Liaising with Kenya civil authority in search and rescue plans
iii. Supervising staff in the division
iv. Implementing the National Oil Spill Response contingency plan (NOSRCP)
v. Implements the International Convention for the prevention of pollution from
Ships Marpol 73/78
vi. Implements the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code (IMSBC Code)
vii. Developing budget for the division ;
viii. Evaluating Performance of staff in the division; and
ix. Mentoring and coaching staff

Person Description
For appointment to this grade, an officer must:-
i. Bachelor Degree in the Maritime field such as Nautical Science, Marine
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering any other relevant qualifications from a
recognized institution;
ii. Master’s Degree in any of the following; Maritime Affairs, Nautical Science, Marine
Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent qualifications from a recognized
institution will be an added advantage;
iii. Certificate of Competency Class 1 (II/2) in accordance with the International
Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping 1978,as
amended
iv. Should have experience in search and rescue for a minimum period of three (3)
years;
v. A Management Course lasting not less than Four (4) weeks from a recognized
institution;
vi. Be a member of a relevant professional body where applicable;
vii. Proficiency in computer applications;
viii. Demonstrated results in work performance;
ix. Good communication skills,
x. Demonstrated ability to mobilize resources;
xi. Proposal development skills;
xii. Proficiency in Computer skills;
xiii. Meet the provision of Chapter Six of Constitution.
