About us
Renewable World (RW) is an international charity that tackles poverty through the provision of affordable, renewable energy. By connecting remote communities with clean energy, and training them to use it productively, our projects work to support income generation, sustainable livelihoods, reduction in health inequalities, access to education; and ultimately provide power to people to support poverty alleviation.

Role summary
RW has been working through local partners in Kenya since 2013 installing 10 microgrids in the Lake Victoria Region and supporting communities to operate Microgrids for household and productive use. To support our commitment to developing and diversifying our programmes in Kenya we have recently registered a branch in Kenya with a view to establishing strong projects directly under RW Kenya and using renewable energy as a catalyst to support poverty alleviation.
This role is a new position to ensure that the branch and Kenyan team can successfully work with the RW global team (UK and Nepal) to support programmatic growth, diversification of projects and programmes, and compliance within Kenyan legislation. The ideal candidate will be a strong manager who has experience of working within an international or national NGO supporting programmatic and partnerships development but who also has direct experience of working with renewable energy technologies (and ideally within one of the following areas: Livelihoods, Agriculture and or Health). The successful candidate will be an integral member
of our global management team and will provide valuable guidance and insight for our global team into programmes and projects development in Kenya.
We are looking for a highly motivated Country Manager based within Kenya to support us in designing and delivering sustainable and successful renewable energy centered programmes and projects.
The primary role will be:
- Working with the Kenya and Global teams to lead on the development, adaptation, and growth of the Kenya programmatic pipeline
- Ensuring communities are at the centre of programmatic design and implementation, and that
programmes centre renewable energy technology as a catalyst for poverty alleviation
- Supporting the RW Kenya team to grow and diversify relationships with in-country partners and local and national government to ensure successful programme development, delivery, and sustainability
- Supporting and managing the RW Kenya team through provision of technical, administrative, and managerial support and guidance
- Overseeing regional governance and compliance including the effective management of the RW Kenya branch and direct management of the Kenya team
- Providing programmatic content to RW UK in the development of successful funding propositions

This position is currently funded for ONE year with the expectation to be extended upon successful development and initiation of RW delivered programmes in Kenya. This is being advertised as a full-time post, but we would consider 3-4 days per week for the right candidate with a view to the position then moving to full time once programmes and projects are up and running.

PLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO KENYAN NATIONALS OR THOSE WHO HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK WITHIN KENYA – RENEWABLE WORLD CANNOT OFFER SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS POSITION.
As a new branch, we have not yet established an office therefore remote working will be required for the initial part of the contract until the office is established.
