Job Description

SENIOR NURSING OFFICER (CRITICAL CARE) JOB GROUP ‘CPSB 09 -V/NO. KCPSB/1 1/2021/20 (1 POSITION)

Terms of Service: 3-year contract
Remuneration: As per SRC guidelines

Requirements for Appointment
i.Have a Minimum of a Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing from a recognized institution
ii.Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or a Masters in critical care nursing will be an added
advantage
i. Have Six (6) years’ experience in nursing practice three (3) of which must be in a critical
care unit.
ii. Evidence of leadership or management in a critical care itnit
iii. Have a valid practicing license from the nursing council of Kenya
iv. Training in Nursing leadership and management added advantage
v. Computer literate
vi. Excellent communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities
i. Leading a team of nurses in provision of care in CCU/HDU
ii. Daily patient care in critical care unit or HDU
iii. Assessment, and planning of care in a CCU/HDU
iv. Planning and budgeting for CCU/HDU commodities and consistent supply in liaison with the Hospital management
v. Advice the facility Nursing officer in charge/HMT in critical care nursing needs
vi. Ensure care of critical care equipment and work with biomedical engineer on preventive maintenance
vii. Coordinate collaborative care with physicians and multidisciplinary team in the unit
viii. Ensure efficiency in documentation and reporting through the health management information system
ix. Ensure infection prevention and control in the department
x. Participate in teaching and mentorship of nurses and students in the critical care /HDU
xi. Keeping abreast of changing techniques in critical care nursing and maintaining high level of expertise
xii. Recognizing complications in the intensive care patients and operating technological equipment
xiii. Ensuring economic use of equipment and supplies
xiv. Examine trends in-patient admissions, in order to inform capacity planning and design appropriate flexible provision of nurse staffing.
