SENIOR REGISTERED NURSE (ONCOLOGY) - JOB GRADE MTRH (10 POSITIONS)
REF: MTRH/HR/02/08/2023
a). Job Purpose:
Implement the Nursing Act, Cap 257 revised edition 2012(1985). Provide and coordinate
holistic, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health care services using the
nursing process to meet health needs of clients/patients at the Hospital. Collaborate with
other members of the health care team in providing health care interventions. Carry out
research in nursing health care. Maintain nursing records and confidentiality of
information relating to patients/clients. Provide safe patient care in a conducive
environment.
b). Responsibilities:
Senior Registered Nurse (Oncology) responsibilities include;
1. Performing nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients.
2. Providing direct nursing care for specified patients, including appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed.
3.Monitoring vitals of patients
4. Coordinating the patient's care with all other providers.
5. Providing education to patients, families, and significant others;
6. Acting as an information resource to students, health care professionals, patients, and the public.
7. Providing family support as required, including applicable referrals and bereavement counseling.
8. Following established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
9.Training and guiding other nursing and support staff engaged in clinical activities; may participate in research and related activities.
10. Explaining the treatments and answering questions for patients
11. Providing information on resources for family members
c). Minimum Requirements:
For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:
i. Served in the grade of Registered Nurse for a minimum period of five (5) years or in a comparable position.
ii. Diploma in any of the following disciplines; Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry from a recognized institution.
iii. Higher Diploma in Oncology Nursing from a recognized institution.
iv. Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
v. 2023 Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya.
vi. Proficiency in computer applications.
