Job Description

The KCCB - General Secretariat is the National Administrative, facilitative and Coordinative arm through which
the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops implements and co-ordinates various Pastoral programs at the
National level and undertakes all those responsibilities which express the mission of the Catholic Church in
Kenya. KCCB programs and activities are implemented through different Commissions, departments and
National Offices each with clear mandate from the Plenary Assembly.
KCCB - GS is seeking to recruit outstanding, dynamic and results oriented individuals to fill the following
positions.
INTERNAL AUDITOR

Job Summary
The Internal Auditor will be responsible for ensuring risks to the organization are well managed and that the
organization adheres to its internal policies, systems and procedures. Key will be to express an independent
professional opinion with regard to efficiency, effectiveness and economy of KCCB’s operations; while
evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the financial management and internal control systems. The
successful candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and have sound judgement.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop comprehensive audit plan programs, monitor progress on the implementation of the plans and
disseminate Best Practice identified from individual audits and other sources such as professional journals.
2. Assist in implementing, and reviewing the internal audit charter.
3. Perform and control the full audit cycle including risk management and control over operations’
effectiveness, financial reliability and compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
4. Assist in developing internal audit strategies, policies, and manuals detailing the audit procedures.
5. Participate in preparation of the periodic audit reports for presentation to the management and the Audit,
Determining the organization’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
6. Evaluating and making recommendations that can assist in improving internal control to the Audit Risk
and Governance Committee of Council for Economy
7. Verify the existence of assets and recommend proper safeguards for their protection
8. Assess compliance with policies and procedures and sound business practices
9. Assess compliance with statutory requirements and contractual obligations.
10. Review operations/programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and
whether the operations/programs are being carried out as planned
11. Liaising with the External Auditors on tracking and implementation of key audit findings as documented
in the management letters.
12. Assist in the development and monitoring of key risk indicators (KRIs) that are mapped to various risks to
determine elevations in risk and proactively implement risk mitigation measures
13. Report outstanding overdue actions to the Audit Risk and Governance (ARG) Committee on a quarterly
basis.
14. Providing technical and secretarial support services to the Audit Risk and Governance Committee in the
performance of its functions.
15. Any other business assigned by management and or the Council for Economy.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience and desirable qualities
1. Bachelor’s Degree - Accounting or related field
2. Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K).
3. MBA an added advantage
4. Minimum 6 years proven working experience as an Internal or Senior Auditor
5. Membership to a professional body with good standing
6. A firm understanding of internal auditing standards and application
7. Good knowledge and understanding of major donors’ audit and compliance requirements and reporting
guidelines will be an added advantage.
8. Demonstrable independence and ability to work with minimum supervision.
9. Be a person of high Integrity and ethical work standards.
10. Ability to exercise objectivity and discretion
11. Good interpersonal and communication skills
