Job Requirements
i. Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Home Economics, Crop production, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agri-business, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agricultural Extension & Education, Entrepreneurship or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
ii. Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development course not less than 6 weeks
iii. Certificate in Senior management course not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
iv. Demonstrate high degree of professional competence as reflected in work performance and results Minimum level.
v. Must have served in the grade of Assistant Director of Agriculture or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) years.
vi. Leadership skills Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, Organizational skills, Ability to work under pressure, Negotiation skills, Ability to build and lead cohesive teams and Problem solving skills.
vii. Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Job Description
i. This position is responsible for enhancing crops productivity in the county through adoption of Innovative competitive and sustainable farming methods that leads to improved harmonized food security, income generation and job creation.
ii. Handling administrative, human resource and asset management issues
iii. Setting performance targets and standards in consultation with the Director
iv. Direct interventions in the crops value chains which connect farmers and input suppliers and markets
v. Overseeing efforts that lead to improved linkages between small farmers, civil society organizations, financial institutions, government and private sector
vi. Maintain relationships with relevant government line departments, research institutions, private sector to
vii. Coordinating the adoption of new products or approaches in crops development and marketing
viii. Overseeing the development and dissemination of crop development programmes in the county
ix. Leading capacity building activities in crops and backstopping on crop management and development in the county
x. Devising and applying strategies to maximize value of land and optimize it’s use for alternative crop development purposes
xi. Participating in monitoring, evaluation and knowledge management of crops programmes in the county
xii. Collating, analyzing, storing and disseminating crop production information
xiii. Promoting the adoption of emerging crops technologies, compliance to standards in crop production and value addition to crops produce
xiv. Assessing food requirement deficit’s, post-harvest losses, crop production trends and Farm inputs deficit’s
xv. Preparing and implementing work plans and budgets and Compiling sectional reports
xvi. Participating in field days, exhibitions and shows.
xvii. Participating in budgeting process and expenditure control,
xviii. Strategic: Prepares departmental strategic plan
xix. Financial: Act as the Accounting Officer for the ministry
xx. Operational: Oversees the day to day management operations in the section.
