MEDICAL SPECIALIST [2] ā€“ MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON, JOB GROUP
ā€œPā€ ā€“ ONE (1) POST
Requirements for appointment
i. Be a Kenyan citizen;
ii. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Degree in Surgery or
Bachelor of Dentistry Degree from a University recognized in Kenya
iii. Master of Medicine Degree in Maxillofacial Surgery from a
University recognized in Kenya
iv. Registered as a Medical Specialist Practitioner by Medical
Practitioners and Dentist Council
v. Have a Valid Practicing License
vi. Be of acceptable moral and professional standing
vii. Willing to undertake duties physically in any part of Tharaka Nithi
County as they will be assigned from time to time
viii. Certificate in computer application skills from an Institution
recognized in Kenya

Duties and responsibilities
The Maxillofacial Surgeon will be responsible to the employer and the
supervisor for the following;
i. Consulting with patients and analyzing patient data to determine
patient needs and treatment
ii. Collaborating with other specialists, such as restorative dentists
and orthodontists, to plan management of patients
iii. Recording patient care by maintaining detailed notes of
appointments with patients, including comments, tests and/or
treatments prescribed, tests and investigations required
iv. Performing surgical procedures to extract impacted or damaged
teeth, place dental implants, and remove tumors and other
abnormal growths of the oral and/or facial abnormalities
v. Prescribing medication to improve recovery and control pain after
surgery and other pain causing procedures
vi. Treating infections of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaw, face, and
related structures
vii. Providing emergency treatment of orofacial injuries including facial
lacerations, intraoral lacerations, and fractured facial bones
viii. Performing minor cosmetic procedures, such as chin and
cheekbone operations
ix. Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term
treatment
x. Conducting research on defects, diseases, and disorders affecting
the oral and/or facial regions
xi. Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.
