Job Description

Position: Laboratory Technologist J/G KMR 8 (2 position)
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Location: GEM

Job Specifications
The duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
i. Perform fingerpick and Venipuncture sample collection
ii. Perform HIV rapid testing
iii. Ensure adequate stock of reagents and other consumables are available and track usage
iv. Maintain laboratory QC/QA in the performance of assigned duties
v. Record test results obtained in an organized and timely manner and write summary reports
vi. Document all problems encountered with samples/equipment and forward them for action
vii. Observe at all times GCP/GCLP to ensure quality work is attained
viii. Facilitate PT testing and other EQA schemes as recommended by the quality assurance officer
ix. Support validation of new HIV testing protocols or platforms
x. Contributing to program monitoring and evaluation
xi. Support the laboratory in achieving and maintaining ISO 15189:2012 accreditation for medical laboratories
xii. Ensure proper operational procedures and laboratory safety precautions are maintained and
adhered to in the laboratory required qualifications
xiii. Willing to live and work in Gem (study site)

Person specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science
2. Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB)
3. Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists where
applicable
4. Proficiency in computer application
5. Minimum laboratory experience of one (1) year in a busy laboratory
6. Pleasant personality, flexibility, team player, ability to solve problems, work with minimal
supervision

Terms of Employment: A fixed term contract for 6 months as per KEMRI scheme of service.
Remuneration: Salary is negotiable within the appropriate KEMRI pay grade depending on education and experience
